- Decrease food waste and losses
- Increase crop efficiency
- Improvement of products and cold-chain traceability.
- Support to digitalise the value chain.
- Improve waste separate collection
In Spain (the 7th most wasteful country in the EU with regards to food), 80% of food waste is fresh fruits and vegetables. Almost a third of this food waste is created at the primary production level while households are responsible for almost a fifth.
This highlights that many inefficiencies take place across the entire food value chain of fruits and vegetables. The Spanish pilot involves a cross-regional demo in which the food flow is covered from the farms in Navarre to the Basque country waste bins in Zamudio municipalities for its subsequent composting. The pilot is based on working on the processing and consumption patterns of prepared salads so that food waste and loss can be reduced along the value chain.
